Professional Photographers
of America
Why consider a professional photographer? Anyone with a camera
can take pictures.

Look at the photography and the photographer

1. A professional should have samples of work performed for clients. Look at the
photographer's portfolio. Ask for references.

2. Back-up equipment should be available at all times. A wedding or other major event is a
one time occurrence. Equipment can fail at the most crucial time. If the photographer is a
true professional a clause should be offered to make efforts for a competent photographer to
be at your event if your photographer is not available.

3. Consider the style of the photography. Ask how the photographs were created? How does
the photographer conduct the session? Are you comfortable with the manner the work will
be carried out?

4. Many reception halls and churches require the photographer to provide proof of liability
insurance. The typical home owner's policy is not what they are looking for.

5. Your photographer should be willing to listen to your concerns and develop a relationship
with you. Photography is an intimate process. You are placing a great deal of trust in
capturing the memories you will cherish.

6. Ask for credentials. Professional associations, certifications or photography degrees
illustrate a commitment to the craft and profession.
